I grew up in Indiana where the state fair was a huge event. I looked forward to it every year. I would even get lunch at the fair when I worked in downtown Indianapolis. The Alaska State fairgrounds are located in Palmer which is a four hour drive from our home. This year we finally made the drive to the Alaska State Fair. It exceeded our expectations.
Just standing in line was amazing. We were surrounded by mountains. Once inside we noticed a big difference between the Indiana State Fair and the Alaska State Fair. Instead of the typical Indiana food fare, we were greeted by some delicious Alaskan king crab.
Although the crab was tempting we just decided on some typical fair food. I had been craving a corn dog and my boys wanted other bite size samplings.
We attended the fair on the second day. Huge crowds lined the walkways. I loved looking at the snow capped mountains in the background while walking the perimeter of the fair. We hope to return next year and sample more of the Alaska State Fair’s food!
